Something is missing! Sketchbook due Monday, March 4th

The sketchbook assignment for the upcoming week is posted each Sunday evening....

If you checked on Sunday, you would not have found the instructions for your sketchbook assignment...it was missing.

That is your assignment for the week. You will draw an object with something missing from it. Don't be obvious! I should have to look at your object for a little while in order to notice that it is missing.

The above picture is a classic that goes around the internet from time to time...

Sketchbook - Due Feb.25th

Draw something one would not expect to see in winter time; include it in a winter scene. Colour must be used.

Don't let the winter blues get you down...Sketchbook due February 18th

The Blue Man Group is a creative performance art troupe based out of Boston. The performers are literally painted blue and the group is known for their quirky, and very creative performances.

This week's sketchbook assignment is a little bit different, in that rather than doing it in your sketchbook, it will be done using the computer and your finished piece will be emailed to me.

The link below takes you to their site and an opportunity to create a unique piece of artwork - surrealism. Your piece is performance art in the sense that when you are finished and have added a message, press preview and watch your work come to life. It is up to you to decide how much to include, the message you want to share etc. When you have finished your piece and are happy with it you have an option to "share" it via email. Please email it to me at my school address. Have fun being blue!

Driver's License... plate that is... Sketchbook due Feb.11

Re-design this plate for your sketchbook assignment. Look at the various elements within the plate when creating your version of our license plate.

Through the looking glass... Due Monday, February 4th

Or should I say, magnifying glass...

You will draw any object as though looking at it through a magnifying glass. Be sure to include the magnifying glass in your drawing....

Colour with coloured pencil/pastel/paint or shade with pencil

This assignment, done well, should take between 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete.

If possible, find a magnifying glass to use.... if you don't have access to one then use your imagination to decide how much larger the magnified object would be.

Last minute wrapping... sketchbook for Monday, Dec.17th

I gave a thorough explanation in class last week but just in case you forgot, here is a quick reminder...

Pretend you have to wrap a gift (for example, a child's bike) but you do not have a box to put it in. Draw what the wrapped gift would look like. Be sure to have beautiful paper and bows/ribbons etc. for your gift...

Imagine wrapping a helicopter...imagine receiving a helicopter for a gift!!!!

This bike is wrapped but it does not show the contour of the bike...

Take away the wrapping and this is really an exercise in contour drawing. Contour drawing focuses on the basic shapes and outline of an object rather than the fine details and shading to show form. This contour drawing has the basic elements of a hand, while the fingers and even the finger nails are shown, very little detail is given within the fine creases of the fingers and palm of the hand.
